Welcome to IronZelly's Solarium!

This is my personal solarpunk themed Neocities site.

Now you might be wondering to yourself – “What is solarpunk?

Well, boiling it down, solarpunk is a social and artistic movement which aspires towards and advocates for creating a sustainable future that works in harmony with nature and establishes community. It rejects climate doomerist/nihilistic rhetoric in favor of an optimistic view of the future, correlates to the use of solar energy and renewable resources, and involves a D.I.Y (do-it-yourself) artisan approach to problem solving. Where the “punk” aspect of Solarpunk comes into play would be its counterculture, daring to envision what a post-capitalist society would look like, and sometimes even decolonial ideas. In tandem, solarpunk’s focus is to solve challenges produced by climate change and pollution, whilst addressing humanity’s impact on the environment. As a subgenre, it deviates from cyberpunk and leans into utopian and/or fantasy genres.

In summary, solarpunk represents an ecologically friendly vision of hope in the face of a bleak and dystopian future. Note that while solarpunk has a beautiful aesthetic, it can sometimes be misused to promote “green washing”, where it adopts the aesthetics of solarpunk without addressing the root environmental issues the movement aims to solve, so please be wary of such practices. Due to how fresh of a concept solarpunk is, it stands to reason that it’s not as well known as other subgenres, but its popularity is continuing to grow and my hope is that it will continue to provide sustainable alternatives to our current way of life, as many of the things that whether knowingly or not fall under the category of “solarpunk” are solutions that are being applied in our present day throughout many parts of the world. Likewise, it’s within my best interest that this site’s resources can in regardless however small an impact, remind us of the essential steps or little ways we can help our community and environment, because we aren’t separate from nature, we are a part of it. Please note, I’m continuing to learn and research as I go.

Additionally, I do dabble in art from time to time, so this will be the site where I post the occasional image or free-to-use hand-made graphic too. Anything that's not made by me on this site, I try to link back to the source I found it from if I can't otherwise find the true original source. If there is a graphic not made by me that needs taking down, please let me know so I can substitute it with my own graphic instead. Thanks!
